Nolan H. Howes
Forensic Engineer
Nolan Howes joined MRA Forensic Sciences in May 2026 as a Forensic Engineer. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2022 and is completing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at BYU, with an expected graduation in Summer 2026.
During his doctoral studies, Nolan has been a member of the Neuromechanics Research Group, where his research has focused on identifying the muscles most responsible for pathological tremor. His work includes the development of a novel contribution analysis method for multi-input systems, resulting in two peer-reviewed publications that present the methodology and its application to tremor biomechanics.
Prior to joining MRA, Nolan gained valuable engineering experience in medical device development, including an internship with Medtronic’s surgical robotics division and a capstone project with ATL Technology. He has also contributed to humanitarian prosthetics initiatives, supporting prosthetic clinics in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.
At MRA, Nolan specializes in accident reconstruction and biomechanical analysis, applying his expertise in mechanical engineering, human movement, and experimental methods to evaluate injury mechanisms and collision dynamics. His analytical approach and research background help provide objective, scientifically grounded assessments in complex forensic investigations.
Outside of work, Nolan enjoys spending quality time with his family, whether relaxing at home, exploring new places, or taking weekend adventures together. A dedicated automotive enthusiast, he enjoys restoring, repairing, and driving a wide variety of vehicles. He also stays busy with hands-on projects, including woodworking, 3D printing, and home improvement projects.
